MIDI lets you rework notes with a virtual instrument; it does not contain the song’s sound. Suno Studio’s documented workflow starts with a stem and Get MIDI. Keep that audio stem to check the transcription before changing instruments.
MIDI and audio stems solve different problems
An audio stem lets you hear and mix a separated part. MIDI describes information such as notes and timing for playback with a sound you choose. Keep audio when preserving a voice or a particular guitar tone matters. Use MIDI as a working starting point when adapting a melody to another instrument.
It is not a certified original score. Compare it with the audible passage before relying on it for an arrangement.
The Suno Studio workflow
The Studio export instructions describe selecting a stem and using Get MIDI. The download formats page specifies plan and song eligibility. Check these conditions and the cost shown in your interface before proceeding.
Begin with a clearly identifiable part, such as a bass line you want to replay. Archive the MIDI, source stem and reference mix together. Follow the stem guide to prepare separated audio.
Why does the MIDI file make no sound?
Route it to an instrument track with a sound generator or virtual instrument loaded. Check the track’s output and level. A note file placed on an audio track does not automatically become a piano recording.
For the first audition, choose a simple sound with a clear attack. A heavily reverberated preset can hide overlong or doubled notes; choose the final tone after checking the transcription.
Five checks before rearranging
- Start: does the first note land at the same point as the source stem?
- Pitch: are any notes in the wrong octave?
- Duration: do note endings create unwanted overlaps?
- Density: are there stray or repeated notes?
- Rhythm: does the phrase retain its motion without excessive quantization?
Work on a copy. Correct obvious errors first, then decide whether to preserve or adapt the original placement. Changing every note length and quantizing everything immediately makes comparison difficult.
Export the rearranged part
Audition the new instrument within the full mix, especially under vocal entrances and transitions. Keep distinct names for the original stem, corrected transcription and audio render. Timbre changes and note corrections are production decisions; a MIDI file alone does not establish human authorship of a song.
